Van Gogh in The City

I went to a seminar in Boston, which happened to be Election Day 2000, the last of autumn's color. I captured a digital photo in the park and later that evening did a charcoal sketch and then an oil pastel (above scanned). Boston has a vibe that is harshly encouraging, with the continuing promise of contrasts.... Contrasts are the key here.
